ISLAMABAD: A high-level delegation from Lebanon has arrived in Pakistan to engage with Global Industrial & Defence Solutions (GIDS), the country’s leading state-owned defence conglomerate, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The visit aims to finalise a comprehensive defence and security cooperation agreement focused on bolstering Lebanon’s capabilities amid ongoing tensions in southern Lebanon.

Sources in Pakistan’s defence ministry said the agreement will cover technology transfer, joint training, and supply of critical defence systems tailored to address regional security challenges, including threats from Israeli operations.

GIDS, headquartered in Rawalpindi and employing over 27,000 personnel, serves as Pakistan’s primary platform for indigenous development and export of advanced military systems. The entity specialises in UAVs, air defence solutions, precision munitions, and integrated systems.

The Lebanese delegation, led by senior military officials, held initial meetings with GIDS executives and representatives from Pakistan’s Ministry of Defence Production. Air defence solutions such as the Low-to-Medium Altitude Air Defence System (LoMADS) provide coverage up to 100 km range and 20 km altitude, with the ability to engage multiple targets simultaneously. Precision-guided munitions, including Burq laser-guided bombs and air-to-ground missiles, offer high-accuracy options for tactical scenarios.

Portable anti-UAV systems and loitering munitions like Sarfirosh further strengthen asymmetric response capabilities. Pakistan has exported similar technologies to multiple countries, demonstrating reliability in diverse operational theatres.

The prospective agreement is expected to involve initial deliveries valued in the range of several hundred million dollars, with provisions for local maintenance and training facilities in Lebanon. Timelines discussed include rapid deployment of select systems within 12-18 months.
