ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan has paid rich tributes to theindividuals affected by terrorism on the eve of first ever ‘InternationalDay of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism’, reiteratingthat the resolve to fight the menace remains unwavering.
On behalf of the Government of Pakistan and its people, a message issued bythe PM House on Tuesday states that the day is marked to thank and honourour law enforcement agencies and armed forces who have rendered immensesacrifices to ensure the safety and security of Pakistan and its people.
‘Pakistan has been one of the worst victims of terrorism, sufferingthousands of casualties in this war, of both civilians and securitypersonnel,’ stated the message.
The premier also mentioned the victims of the Army Public School (APS),saying Pakistan holds in thoughts and prayers the victims of the heartlessand brutal attack that resulted in the loss of more than 130 precious lives.
‘Lives that were lost too early and lives that we will never forget,’stated the message.
The premier reiterated that in the face of every tragedy, the resilientPakistani nation had shown that the values of enlightenment, compassion andempathy that binds it together, were much stronger than the forces ofintolerance, hatred, and violence that aim to divide it.
The premier, in his message, expressed that the remembrance of the victimsmust go beyond mere words as we commemorate this day across the globe.
The government, under the chair of Imran Khan, also called on theinternational community to take actions to support the victims ofterrorism, saying the Government of Pakistan has taken a number of measuresto support victims of terrorism including rehabilitation of temporarilydislocated persons, rebuilding damaged infrastructure, and payment ofmonetary compensation to the victims and their families.
‘We stand with the International Community to eliminate this menace andreiterate to take joint actions to extend all support to those who havebeen the victims of terrorism,’ concluded the message.
