IHC takes decision on petition against Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) forwarded a request regarding formation of a larger bench to IHC Chief Justice for hearing the disqualification case against Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif.

Justice Amir Farooq of IHC heard the petition seeking Khawaja Asif’s disqualification.

Usman Dar of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had filed the petition against the minister, calling for his disqualification on the basis of his Iqama.

The petitioner’s lawyer Sikandar Basheer, in his arguments, stated that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader is a permanent employee of a foreign compant and is earning 50,000 dirhams on monthly basis.

He also claimed that Asif is not paying income tax as well.

“His matter is similar to that of Panama Papers Case,” the counsel argued.

The lawyer pleaded the court to disqualify the foreign minister as he is not eligible under Article 62 of the constitution.

The bench, after listening to the arguments ordered to form a larger bench to hear the matter and forwarded the petition back to the Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court.
