Irked India gives a frustrating response over Pakistan refusal to Indian PM Modi

NEW DELHI – Irked India gives a frustrating response over Pakistan refusalto Indian PM Narendra Modi flight to over fly Pakistani airspace amiddeteriorating situation between the two nuclear armed rivals.

India has expressed its regret on the decision of Pakistan to decline NewDelhi’s request to allow the plane of PM Narendra Modi to use Pakistaniairspace for the upcoming US visit. New Delhi had formally requestedIslamabad last week to give permission for PM Modi’s plane to use Pakistaniairspace.

Strongly reacting to Islamabad’s decision, Ministry of External Affairs(MEA) Spokesperson, Raveesh Kumar, said that Pakistan should reflect uponits decision to deviate from well established international practice andreconsider its old habit of misrepresenting the reasons for takingunilateral action.

The MEA highlighted that it is for the second time in two weeks Islamabadhas said no to overflight for an Indian VVIP. Earlier in September, Indiahad requested Islamabad to allow President Ram Nath Kovind’s plane to usethe Pakistani airspace during his Europe visit which was declined.

All VVIP visits require, as part of the protocol, to inform foreigncountries of the use of airspace.
