Referring to Operation Sindoor, conducted in May, General Chauhan notedthat Pakistan had used both unarmed drones and loitering munitions duringthe operation. However, he underlined that “most of these UAVs weresuccessfully neutralised through a combination of kinetic and non-kineticmeans,” and “none managed to inflict any damage on Indian military orcivilian infrastructure.”

He further stressed that dependence on foreign technologies compromisesnational security, adding, “India must work towards reducing reliance onimported niche technologies essential for strategic missions.”

Pointing to global trends, the CDS remarked that recent conflicts havedemonstrated how drones can dramatically alter the tactical balance on thebattlefield.

He concluded by calling for greater emphasis on developing both kinetic andnon-kinetic countermeasures and accelerating the indigenisation of droneand anti-drone technologies to effectively address evolving aerial threats.
