NEW DELHI – Police on Friday lodged an FIR against seven persons includingfive juveniles for allegedly gang-raping a 13-year-old girl in her village,about nine kilometres from Chaibasa in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district.
One of the five juveniles involved in the incident was apprehended and sentto remand home while the rape survivor was sent for medical tests, policesaid. The incident, which took place on July 26, came to light on Thursdayafter the girl’s family approached the police.
“We have lodged FIR under the relevant sections against two adults and fivejuveniles after preliminary investigation confirmed the heinous crime. Weapprehended an accused juvenile on Thursday and based on his statement wesucceeded in identifying others. The girl has been sent for medical teststoday while the juvenile has been sent to the remand home,” said DigvijaySingh, officer-in-charge, Chaibasa muffasil police station.
Singh further said raids were on to nab other six named in the FIR whileinvestigation was on to collect evidence.
As per the complaint, the girl had gone to graze cattle on July 26, whenyouths from neighbouring village allegedly gang-raped the girl. They thenthreatened the girl of dire consequences to keep her mouth shut.
