NEW DELHI – In a worst blow to Indian federation unity, Indian state hasthreatened to demand independence from the India.
Indian leader Akhil Gogoi says Assamese people may opt for independence ifproper respect is not shown to them and the Citizenship Amendment Bill ispassed.
Addressing a protest rally against the proposed legislation in Assam, hesaid we want to make it clear that if the need and situation arises,Assamese are prepared to part way with India.
The proposed legislation seeks to provide Indian citizenship to non-Muslimsfrom Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan, and many parties andorganisations have claimed that it will have an adverse impact on thedemography of the sensitive border state.
Several organisations in Northeast Indian state Mizoram had also boycottedthe Republic Day celebrations in protest against the Citizenship AmendmentBill.
