Indian intelligence had prior knowledge of Sri Lanka terrorist attacks

NEW DELHI – Indian intelligence officers had prior knowledge of the SriLanka attacks, international media has revealed.

Indian officials contacted their Sri Lankan counterparts two hours beforethe first attack to warn of a specific threat on churches, one Sri Lankandefence source and an Indian government source said.

Sri Lankan intelligence officials were tipped off about an imminent attackby Islamist militants hours before a series of suicide bombings killed morethan 300 people on Easter Sunday, three sources with direct knowledge ofthe matter said.

Three churches and four hotels were hit by suicide bombers on Sundaymorning, killing 321 people and wounding 500, sending shockwaves through anisland state that has been relatively peaceful since a civil war ended adecade ago.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks on Tuesday, withoutproviding evidence of its involvement.
