In a first, India gets a diplomatic snub from British government over Occupied Kashmir crisis

LONDON -In a first, India gets a diplomatic snub from British governmentover Occupied Kashmir crisis which termed it an international human rightsissue.

The British government has expressed “serious concerns” over communicationblackout and detentions in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK), terming it aninternational human rights issue.

According to *The Hindustan Timeslink,*MPsin the House of Commons raised on Tuesday serious concerns on the situationin occupied valley after New Delhi unilaterally revoked the special statusof its only Muslim-majority region in the rushed presidential decree onAugust 5.

UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab referred to recent discussions betweenpremier Boris Johnson and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, as well asbetween him and foreign minister S Jaishankar, when he said London’sconcerns on IOK were conveyed.

“The issue of human rights is… an international issue. We expect of all ourpartners that internationally recognised standards of human rights arerespected and complied with,” he said.

Raab said human rights violations in occupied Kashmir were deeplyconcerning. “They must be investigated thoroughly and promptly andtransparently. The concerns and issues raised are very serious,” he said.

MPs also demandedlinkanend to the blockade in the occupied valley, as well as independentobservers to be deployed to the region.
