ISLAMABAD – Indian top officials had to face big embarassment at theCommonwealth Paliametary Conference when Pakistan strongly raised theOccupied Kashmir lockdown which was applauded by other members.
India was urged and tried to criticised Pakistan’s stand on the Kashmirissue as “propaganda” at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference inUganda and saying military rule is the tradition of Islamabad, so it cannotobject to military rule in Occupied Kashmir.
However the Indian reply failed to earn any support from the membercountries.
The Pakistani delegation raised the heavy presence of security forces inthe Valley at the 64th meeting of the Commonwealth ParliamentaryAssociation in Kampala, which the Indian side countered.
The Indian delegation, which included MPs Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, RoopaGanguly and L Hanumanthaiah, said the tradition of military rule isprevalent in Pakistan and the country has been under such rule for 33years, according to a statement issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
The Indian delegation led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is taking part inthe conference which will conclude on Sunday.Advertisement
The presiding officers and secretaries of state legislatures, who aremembers of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, are participating inthe conference.
