US House Foreign Relations Committee to hear Occupied Kashmir crisis

WASHINGTON: The US House Foreign Relations Committee said it will soon hearthe issue of occupied Kashmir in its upcoming meeting.

Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Asia Brad Sherman announced on Fridaythat the subcommittee will soon hold a hearing on the deterioratingsituation in Indian occupied Kashmir which has been under a clampdown sinceAugust 5.

Congressman Sherman said that the hearing will also focus on thehumanitarian situation in Kashmir, where many political activists have beenarrested and daily life, the internet and telephone communications havebeen interrupted.

He added the hearing will also review the humanitarian situation in thevalley. “Are people able to get food, medical care etc,” he added.

“I had an opportunity to meet with Americans from Kashmir Valley just aweek ago in the San Fernando Valley, along with my colleague CongressmanAndre Carson, we heard stories of difficulties encountered by myconstituents and others and the fears they have for their loved ones. Ilook forward to learning more about human rights in Kashmir,” Sherman said.

“I look forward to learning more about human rights in Kashmir,” Shermanadded.
