India approaches Malaysia for extradition of Islamic scholar Zakir Naik

NEW DELHI – India has sought extradition for preacher Zakir Naik fromMalaysia on Saturday.

The external affairs ministry has requested Malaysian authorities forNaik’s extradition after collating evidence and filing a charge sheet,the Timesof Indialink> reported.

Naik is accused of inciting the youth to engage in militant acts. He iscurrently seeking refuge in Malaysia where he has been given permanentresidency.

In a charge sheet filed on October 26, 2017, India’s NIA found that Naikallegedly insulted various religions.

His speeches also incited audiences to join Daesh. Recordings of hisinflammatory speeches will be shared with prosecutors once the extraditioncase comes up for hearing. A Malaysian court is likely to hear India’srequest.
