NEW DELHI: Indian BJP leader Subramanian Swamylink> on Tuesdaytore into the Mehbooba Muftilink> led government inJammu and Kashmir (J&K) for filing anFIR against Army menlink>over the killingof two civilians in Shopian link>district,Times of India has reported.
“What’s this nonsense? Dismiss that government. Tell Mehbooba (Mufti) towithdraw the FIR else her government would be toppled,” Swamy told newsagency ANI.
Swamy’s fiery remarks come days after two youths were killed when Armypersonnel fired at a stone-pelting mob in J&K’s Shopian district onSaturday, prompting chief minister Mehbooba Mufti to order an inquiry intothe incident.
On Sunday, police filed an FIR under sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attemptto murder) of the Ranbir Penal Code against the personnel of 10, Garhwalunit, of the Army. A Major, who led the Army personnel at the time of theincident, was also named in the FIR.
The PDP-BJP coalition in J&K is in turmoil after Mufti defended the policeaction and refused to cave in to the saffron party’s demands for immediatewithdrawal of the FIR.
Incensed at this snub, Swamy railed: “Why are we even running thatgovernment? I haven’t understood that till date.”
Later in the day, Swamy took to Twitter and augured that the FIR was aprecursor to renewed demands for independence and would lead to “morebloodshed” in the Valley.
