France expresses desire for long partnership with Pakistan over war on terror

ISLAMABAD – The National Security Adviser Lt. General (retd) Nasser KhanJanjua has said that by refusing dialogues, India has defeated the spiritof bilateralism, and this would not lead us anywhere.

Talking to the French ambassador to Pakistan Marc Barety who met him inIslamabad on Friday and discussed matters pertaining to bilateralcooperation and regional security situation, Janjua said that irrespectiveof prevailing impasse both Pakistan and India cannot escape dialogue andresolution of their disputes.

“All mature nations seek and resolve their issues by way of dialogue andthat is what Pakistan would always insist upon while maintaining itsnational dignity and honour,” he said.

Nasser Janjua reiterated that Pakistan is willing to have friendly tieswith all neighbouring Countries including India.

While discussing the situation in Afghanistan, the adviser termed therecent peace offer by the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani as an opportunityto end the perpetual conflict in Afghanistan and stressed that all thestakeholders should play a role in seeking peace there.

“This again should not be put on Pakistan alone. Everyone and particularlyregional countries must come forward to help seek peace in Afghanistan,” headded.

The French envoy applauded Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism andacknowledged civil and military sacrifices offered by the nation in thisregard.

The ambassador expressed the desire to have long-term cooperation withPakistan in this war against terror.

Marc Barety also highlighted the importance of collective efforts againstterrorism and said that France is willing to strengthen defence andintelligence cooperation in a comprehensive framework.

Both sides recognized that the threat of terrorism and particularly Daeshis not yet over and efforts are required to effectively curb this menace inthe region.

They had a very rewarding meeting and agreed to improve Pakistan-Francerelations further and explore more areas to enhance cooperation in otherareas as well.
