PCB hints at choosing new captain after PSL 4

LAHORE – Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) representative on Wednesday hashinted that the board may choose a new captain after the Pakistan SuperLeague (PSL) Season 4.

According to sources, the board has asserted that there is no ‘permanent’captain of the team and the decision on new captaincy will be taken beforePakistan series against Australia.

However, earlier Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani,responding to a question on a possible change in captaincy, remarked thatSarfraz Ahmed would still be the captain of the team.

Sarfraz has been suspended for four matches after breaching theInternational Cricket Council’s Anti-Racism Code for during second one-dayinternational (ODI) against South Africa in Durban.

Sarfaraz aimed a comment at South African all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayowhich resulted in Sarfaraz being charged with an offence under the Code,namely;

“Engaging in any conduct (whether through the use of language, gestures orotherwise) which is likely to offend, insult, humiliate, intimidate,threaten, disparage or vilify any reasonable person in the position of aPlayer, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee, Umpire SupportPersonnel or any other person (including a spectator) on the basis of theirrace, religion, culture, colour, descent, national or ethnic origin.”

Sarfaraz missed the remaining two matches of the ODI series as well as thefirst two matches of the T20I series to follow.
