Another key PTI leader quits party

Former Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) in Punjab, Chaudhry SajidMehmood, has made a significant announcement regarding his politicalaffiliation. He revealed his decision to depart from the PakistanTehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on a Sunday.

Chaudhry Sajid Mehmood, who had previously served as an MPA in Punjab,formally declared his departure from the PTI during a press conference. Hereflected on his longstanding association with the party, noting that hehad joined the PTI back in 2008 and had even participated in electionstwice as a representative of the party.

During the press conference, Mehmood voiced strong condemnation for theriots that occurred on May 9, an incident that had a profound impact onPakistani politics and garnered nationwide condemnation. He particularlyemphasized the need for severe penalties for those individuals found to beinvolved in the May 9 riots.

Additionally, the former Punjab MPA expressed his disapproval of what hedescribed as an ‘anti-state narrative’ espoused by PTI Chief Imran Khan.This narrative, in Mehmood’s view, had negatively impacted the popularityof the political party.

Chaudhry Sajid Mehmood concluded his announcement by expressing a desire toseek forgiveness from PTI workers, as he found it untenable to remainwithin the political party given the prevailing narrative.

In a separate development, on October 16, the former federal ministerFarrukh Habib had also revealed his decision to part ways with the PTI andjoin the IPP.
