Top Pakistani Army Commanders included in key government committees

ISLAMABAD: Top Pakistani Army Commanders included in key governmentcommittees, media report has revealed. Finanace division has requested thegovernment to appoint Director General Military Operation (DGMO) and theInter-Service Intelligence (ISI) director general in the importantcommittees.

The government, in an apparent bid to get the country out of the FinancialAction Task Force’s grey list till February 2020, is all set to extend themembership of two committees associated with FATF targets, Pakistan Todayhas learnt.

According to documents, the Finance Division has sought expansion in theNational Executive Committee and the General Committee to comply with theFATF targets.

In a summary to be tabled before the federal cabinet, the Finance Divisionhas asked the government to make Economic Affairs Minister Hammad Aznhar asmember of the National Executive Committee (NEC).

Similarly, the division has requested the government to appoint DirectorGeneral Military Operation (DGMO) and the Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI)director general as members of the General Committee under Section 5 & 5(4) of AML Act, 2010.

“Greater participation of all stakeholders is required to ensure thatcommitment made through the [FATF] action plan is fulfilled,” documentsavailable with this scribe read. “Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance andRevenue Abdul Hafeez Shaikh has seen and authorised the submission of thissummary.”
