US, South Korea agree to continue exploring peace-building measures

WASHINGTON: The United States and South Korea have agreed to continue exploring confidence and peace-building measures as long as North Korea continues dialogue in good faith.

The agreement came at a meeting between U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and his South Korean counterpart Song Young-moo in Seoul.

However, the two sides reaffirmed that the UN sanctions on North Korea should remain in place until Pyongyang takes concrete and irreversible steps toward denuclearization.

The US Defense Secretary also assured that Washington is fully committed to security of South Korea and will keep its troop level in the country unaltered.
