LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday dismissed a petition,seeking directions for presidential system in the country, after declaringit non-maintainable.
The single bench comprising Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan heard the petitionfiled by, a citizen, Engineer Muhammad Ilyas.
Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel argued that the presidential system wassuitable for the country, submitting that Pakistan always made progressduring the presidential system.
He pleaded with the court to issue directions for holding a referendum toreplace existing parliamentary system with the presidential system.
He also sought directions for election of chairman National AccountabilityBureau (NAB) and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) through the referendum.However, the court dismissed the petition declaring it non-maintainable.
