Pakistan Foreign Office responds to the historic Korean summit

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan welcomes the historic summit between President MoonJae-in of South Korea and Chairman Kim Jong Un of North Korea at Panmunjomon Friday.

In the statement, Foreign Office said Pakistan hopes the step will lead tolasting peace, prosperity, stability, reconciliation and cooperationbetween the two Koreas as well as in the region.

It said Pakistan has always encouraged South Korea and North Korea toresume meaningful negotiations and supported all efforts for smoothreunification of the Korean Peninsula, including the two summits betweenNorth and South Korea in June 2000 and 2007.

The statement said it has been Pakistan’s consistent position that allrelevant parties should pursue the path of dialogue and diplomacy to reducetensions, refrain from any action that is inimical to peace and stabilityin the region, and work towards achieving a comprehensive solution to theKorean Peninsula issue.
