ISLAMABAD: Chinese embassies in Tajikistan and Afghanistan have issuedemergency security alerts directing all Chinese nationals and companies,especially those engaged in gold mining near the shared border, to evacuatethe area without delay, according to reports published on Friday.
The directive follows a deadly drone strike launched from Afghan territorythat killed three Chinese workers and wounded several others at a miningcamp in Tajikistan’s Shamsiddin-Shohin district in Khatlon region onWednesday night.
The Chinese Embassy in Dushanbe strongly condemned the incident as a “gravecriminal act” and expressed profound grief over the loss of life whileextending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
Beijing has activated its consular emergency mechanism and dispatched aspecial team to the attack site to coordinate rescue efforts, visit theinjured, and provide assistance to affected Chinese enterprises operatingin the region.
Chinese diplomats have pressed Tajik authorities to conduct a swift andthorough investigation, apprehend the perpetrators, and implement strongermeasures to protect Chinese citizens, institutions, and projects throughoutthe country.
The embassy has warned Chinese nationals to avoid all travel to borderareas, maintain heightened vigilance, and immediately depart high-riskzones while keeping emergency contact channels open with local police anddiplomatic missions.
A parallel alert from the Chinese Embassy in Kabul has specifically urgedcompanies and personnel involved in gold mining operations in northernAfghanistan to suspend activities and leave the vicinity at the earliestopportunity.
Tajikistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the assault was executedby an explosive-laden unmanned aerial vehicle and condemned the actions of“terrorist groups”, urging Kabul to enhance border security and preventfurther cross-border attacks.
