Former DG ISI arrives in GHQ over controversial book issue

RAWALPINDI: Lieutenant General (retd) Asad Durrani, the former chief of theInter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has arrived at the Pakistan Army’sGeneral Headquarters (GHQ) today.

He was summoned to explain his position on the views attributed to him inhis book ‘The Spy Chronicles’.

Director-general of the Inter-Services Public Relations tweeted about thesummons on Friday.

“Lt Gen Asad Durrani, Retired being called in GHQ on 28th May 18. Will beasked to explain his position on views attributed to him in book ‘SpyChronicles’. Attribution taken as violation of Military Code of Conductapplicable on all serving and retired military personnel,” Major GeneralAsif Ghafoor posted.

The development came after former premier Nawaz Sharif and PakistanPeople’s Party (PPP) Senator Raza Rabbani voiced their reservations overthe book, which has been co-authored by former chief of India’s spy agencyResearch and Analysis Wing (RAW) AS Dulat and Lt Gen (retd) Asad Durrani.

Sharif last week demanded that an emergency meeting of the NationalSecurity Committee be summoned over the book, while Rabbani, who formerlyserved as the chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, also severely criticisedthe teaming up of former chiefs of Pakistan and India’s spy agencies towrite the book.
