HELMAND – At least five people were killed and ten others were wounded in avehicle-borne improvised explosive device attack in southern Helmandprovince of Afghanistan.
The provincial government media office in a statement said a suicide bomberdetonated a car bomb in Nad-e-Ali district of Helmand province at around 8am near an army base, Khaama Press has reported.
The statement further added that the incident took place in Loy Bagh squareand as a result four civilians were killed and seven others were wounded.
An Afghan police officer also lost his life in the attack and three otherswere wounded, the provincial government added.
In reaction to the attack, the provincial government leadership, said themilitants carried out the cowardly attack at a time when they have beenhardly suppressed in Nad-e-Ali and other districts of the province and havelost capabilities to face the security forces.
The statement also added that counter-terrorism operations are underway indifferent parts of Helmand and such attacks cannot deter the securityforces to suppress the militants.
No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility behind the attack.
