Sahiwal encounter victim family receives threats from CTD officials: Report

LAHORE – The counsel of family of Sahiwal incident victims on Monday calledfor providing security to his clients in the wake of alleged threats fromofficials concerned.Addressing a press conference here, Syed Shahbaz Bukhari, counsel ofKhalil’s family, alleged that someofficials of Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) were pressurizing hisclients not to pursue the case againsttheir colleagues involved in the shooting incident.He said Khalil’s family had already informed the Chief City Police Officerand the Joint Investigation Team(JIT) about the threats. The government should provide security to hisclients, he added.Bukhari alleged that he also received a threatening call from a CTDofficial. Had there been any tip-off,citizens should not be killed in such way, which was also not allowed bylaw, he added.The lawyer also presented a seven-minute recorded call during the pressconference and said therecording had been given to JIT head Additional IG Ijaz Shah. The JITmembers had assured that thelatest tools would be used in the investigations, he added.Bukhari said a petition would be filed in the high court for shifting thecase to Lahore.
