ISLAMABAD- The United States will assist in establishment of Pakistan’sFirst Renewable Energy Institute (REI) in the country, Radio Pakistan hasreported.
This was stated by US Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale, while talking toMinister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari in Islamabad onTuesday.
He assured that expertise of the US National Renewable Energy Laboratorywill also be shared with Pakistan to enable its working as perinternational standards.
The Ambassador said that the United States will also consider assistingPakistan in formulation of National Energy Policy and National ElectricityPlan.
The Minister said that the government has initiated the process ofinteraction with all the Provinces for formulation of Energy Policy andNational Electricity Plan.
He said that that the government will also take into consideration variousproposals of the power sector potential stakeholders including the serviceproviders during the formulation of the policy and plan.
The Minister appreciated the US General Electric Company for its RepoweringInitiative proposal that includes conversion or rehabilitation of theexisting power generation units across Pakistan.
He underscored the need of deep cooperation between Pakistan and the US inthe renewable energy sector. He said that renewable energy is the only wayforward to meet the energy requirements of Pakistan.
The Minister also informed the US Ambassador on the progress made so far bythe Power Division for establishment of Pakistan First Renewable EnergyInstitute.
