Pakistan Indonesia setup joint committee on defence cooperation

ISLAMABAD- Pakistan and Indonesia have agreed to strengthen cooperation indiverse fields including defense, security and economy.

The understanding came at a meeting between Prime Minister Shahid KhaqanAbbasi and Indonesian President Joko Widodo during talks in Islamabad today(Saturday).

The two leaders recognized that the people of Pakistan and Indonesia sharedeep political, cultural, religious ties and respect for democratic values.

Being the largest countries in the Islamic world, they stand together fortheir progress, prosperity, stability, security and territorial integrity.

It was agreed to establish a Joint Committee under the bilateral Agreementon Defence Cooperation.

The two leaders agreed to support each other in building their respectiveanti-terrorism capabilities.

The two sides acknowledged that there is considerable untapped potential toexpand trade taking advantage of the Preferential Trade Agreement.

Prime Minister Abbasi briefed President Widodo on Pakistan’s efforts toenhance regional connectivity and development China-Pakistan EconomicCorridor.

Both sides recognized that Afghan led and Afghan owned peace process is amust for the stability and development in Afghanistan.
