NEW DELHI – In India, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has unveiled aportrait of Tipu Sultan as key hero to nation-building at Delhi Assemblybut this became a point of contention at house.
The inclusion of Tipu Sultan has been labelled “controversial” by Delhi BJPMLAs.
Aam Aadmi Party AAP, however, said they had asked the BJP to suggest namesfrom their party or the RSS. “We asked the BJP and their MLAs to suggestnames from either their party or the RSS who had worked for the freedomstruggle of India. But they couldn’t come up with any,” claimed AAP MLA andspokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj.
Stating that BJP leaders always try to create a controversy, Speaker RamNiwas Goel said: “Now, they are opposing inclusion of Tipu Sultan’sportrait in the gallery. I want to tell them that the Constitution alsocarries a picture of Tipu Sultan on page 144. So either the people whofought the British to free the country and wrote this Constitution weregaddar (traitors) or they (the BJP) are one… They should leave this cheappolitics and do politics of development.”
Addressing the gathering during the unveiling, Kejriwal said an atmosphereof violence is being created everywhere, making it tough for people to leada normal life.
