COAS General Qamar Bajwa extension case, PTI government takes the important decision

ISLAMABAD – Over the much hyped issue of COAS General Qamar Bajwaextension case, PTI government takes the important decision.

The government has decided to file a review petition against the verdict ofthe Supreme Court regarding the extension in the service tenure of Chief ofArmy Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Source said that the government has prepared a preliminary manuscript tofile the review petition. The Law and Defence ministries have activated tofile the petition.

The Law Ministry is holding important meetings in this regard.

On December 17, the Supreme Court had ruled that Chief of the Army Staff(COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa would stand retired after six months unlessparliament allowed him extension of tenure by amending the relevant armylaws.

The 42-page verdict authored by Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of athree-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, said it wasinconceivable that the constitutional appointment to the COAS post wasunregulated under a written Constitution.

It said: “The crucial matter of the tenure of COAS and its extension, whichhas somewhat a chequered history, is before the parliament, to fix for alltimes to come and it is now for the people of Pakistan and their chosenrepresentatives in the parliament to come up with a law that will providecertainty and predictability to the post of COAS, remembering that instrengthening institutions, nation prospers.”
