ISLAMABAD:Pakistan has expressed profound concern over the recent findingsby United Nations Special Procedures experts concerning India’s unlawfulactions in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Thereport emphasizes the ongoing severe and systematic violations of humanrights faced by the Kashmiri population under Indian control. ForeignOffice Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi highlighted that theserevelations reinforce the international community’s awareness of the diresituation in the region, where fundamental freedoms are routinelysuppressed.
The spokesperson noted with alarm the experts’ documentation of extensivearbitrary arrests and detentions affecting nearly 2,800 individuals, including journalists, students, and human rights defenders. Such measureshave instilled a climate of fear and repression, stifling dissent andlegitimate advocacy. Pakistan views these actions as part of a broaderstrategy to alter the demographic and political landscape of IIOJK,contravening international norms and resolutions.
Furthermore, the persistent use of draconian laws like the Public SafetyAct (PSA) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) has enabledindefinite detentions without due process. Andrabi condemned the reportedinstances of torture, custodial deaths, and incommunicado detention, whichdeny detainees access to legal recourse and family contact. These practicesnot only violate human dignity but also exacerbate the humanitarian crisisin the occupied territory.
Equally disturbing are the punitive demolitions, forced evictions, andrecurrent communication blackouts that disrupt daily life and isolatecommunities. The suppression of press freedom, including the blocking of8,000 social media accounts, alongside rising hate speech, lynching, andharassment targeting Kashmiris and Muslims across India, paints a grimpicture of state-sponsored discrimination. Pakistan asserts that thesefindings validate its longstanding apprehensions about the persecution ofKashmiri Muslims and other minorities.
In response, the spokesperson urged India to immediately halt its coercivepolicies and release all arbitrarily detained persons in IIOJK. He calledfor concrete measures to end the persecution of religious minorities, including Muslims and Christians, and to restore essential freedoms.Pakistan remains committed to pursuing a peaceful resolution of the Jammuand Kashmir dispute in line with United Nations Security Councilresolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
Andrabi emphasized the need for India to reverse demographic changes, ceaselegal alterations, and engage in sincere dialogue to foster lasting peace.Until such steps are taken, the cycle of repression will persist, undermining regional stability. Pakistan pledges to continue providingmoral, political, and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people in theirrightful struggle against occupation, advocating for justice oninternational platforms.Source: www.mofa.gov.pk/”>https://www.mofa.gov.pk/
