Is Rs 5,000 currency note being scrapped?

ISLAMABAD – The State Bank of Pakistan has responded over the media reportsof scrapping Rs 5000 currency note and change in Rs 100 to 1000 currencynotes.

SBP has rejected reports suggesting a change in currency notes.

Officials of the SBP said that banknotes in the country were not beingchanged.

According to SBP officials, the designs and images of currency notescirculating on social media were fake.

Earlier, reports surfaced on social networking platforms suggesting thatFinance Minister Asad Umar had decided to discontinue Rs5000 banknote.

These reports further suggested that the new government also intended tochange banknotes worth Rs50 to Rs1000.
