ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday met SaudiInterior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif in Riyadh to addressthe protracted issue of legal status for Rohingya Muslims living in theKingdom.
The high-level engagement, held at the Saudi Ministry of Interior, alsocovered strengthening bilateral security cooperation, particularly measuresto curb cross-border drug trafficking networks.
Both ministers exchanged views on regional security challenges and reviewedprogress on existing joint initiatives between the two brotherly nations.
Prince Abdulaziz strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack on theFrontier Corps headquarters in Balochistan and conveyed heartfeltcondolences over the martyrdom of security personnel.
The discussion placed special emphasis on resolving the long-pending matterof regularising the stay of thousands of Rohingya refugees in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi minister appreciated Pakistan’s continued constructive role infacilitating dialogue and coordination to find a durable solution for thestateless community.
The two sides agreed to deepen collaboration through exchange programmesfor police and paramilitary forces and enhance training cooperation.
They also decided to convene the next session of the Pakistan-Saudi ArabiaInterior Ministries Joint Working Group in December to follow up on agreedinitiatives.
The meeting underscored the deep-rooted strategic partnership betweenIslamabad and Riyadh in countering common security threats.
