LAHORE – A sessions court in Lahore barred police on Saturday fromarresting Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz leader, retired Capt Mohammad Safdarafter accepting his application for pre-arrest bail.
Additional Sessions Judge Tajammul Shahzad Chaudhry approved Safdar’sinterim pre-arrest bail against a surety bond of Rs50,000 besides directinghim to appear at each hearing of the case and join the police investigationas and when required.
Safdar, the husband of PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, was booked onWednesday along with 14 party loyalists for hurling threats at policemenduring the court appearance of party leaders; they were booked underSections 186, 147, 149 and 353 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
According to the FIR, some 15 PML-N workers, including Safdar, hurledthreats at policemen and interfered in their official work as Maryam andHamza Shahbaz turned up before the court.
It stated that Safdar snatched a baton from a policeman and tried to attackhim with it.
Safdar had filed an application for pre-arrest bail in the sessions courton Thursday and contended that the FIR against him and other party workershad been lodged “with mala fide intention and ulterior motive”.
The hearing of the case was adjourned until Septemeber 7 and the courtsought a report of the case against Safdar from Islampura police station.
