ECP responds to the PML N request of extending voting time

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejected PakistanMuslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) request of extending polling time for onehour on Wednesday.

ECP official told private news channel that the polling time was notextended anywhere in the country and adding that voters present in pollingstations will be able to cast their votes even after 6pm.

Earlier in the day, senior leader of PML-N Mushahid Hussain Syed hadwritten a letter to the chief election commissioner seeking a one-hourextension in polling time.

PML-N stated that on the basis of reports that have been received fromPML-N candidates from almost all constituencies of Pakistan, I would liketo kindly request you to extend the polling time by at least one hour from6pm to 7pm.

PML-N letter further said, “We are receiving complains on a large-scalenationwide, and PML-N would appreciate if this demand of the voters isaccepted to ensure that the elections are free, fair and transparent sothat all the voters desirous of casting their votes are not deprived ofthat fundamental right.”

Polling is under way across the country. Polls opened at 8am and willconclude, without any break, at 6pm.
