FIA issues cyber crime alert for all citizens, MUST READ

ISLAMABAD – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has warned people fromsharing their personal information to anyone on phone calls in order toavoid financial losses.

An alert issued by FIA’s Cyber Crime Cell said that some miscreants,impersonating officials of armed forces or banks, make calls to citizensand seek personal information such as CNIC number bank details on thepretext of data verification and prize scheme.

The investigation agency has advised people not to attend calls fromunknown numbers and to refrain from sharing the details, as this can leadto identity theft and grave financial loss.

Major General Asif Ghafoor, the Director General of Inter-Services PublicRelations, has warned social media users that they should not be deceivedby hackers misusing his name through malicious emails.

In a series of tweets made through his verified personal account, the ISPRchief revealed that the hackers were sending e-mails to users asking themto fill forms and enter their credentials, trying to defraud people using adomain name similar to that of ISPR.

It is clarified that this is a phishing email which has no link to ISPR’said the official, asking people not to open any such link with thesubject ‘Appointment with Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor’.

The Pak Army spokesman continued that by opening the link in the scam mail,one can compromise the security of his/her computer or handheld device.

He also shared the official domain name of military’s media and expressedthat there was no other domain name from which any official e-mail isforwarded.
