Supreme Court gives a blow to Pakistan Army over commercial activities

ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court (SC) has directed to end all commercialactivities from Pakistan Army’s land in Karachi.

In a directive, the top court has ordered to raze all the marriage hallsset up on Karachi’s Shahra-e-Faisal and Rashid Minhas Road. It also orderedto remove the plazas, cinemas, and other commercial structures erected inthe cantonment areas of the port city.

As per the available details, a two-member bench consisting of JusticeSajjad Ali Shah and Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard the case of encroachments inKarachi.

The bench also asked the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to call acabinet meeting to discuss the possible measures to restore Karachi to itsoriginal condition.——————————

Furthermore, the court asked the attorney general, heads of the AirportSecurity Force (ASF), chief executives of all cantonment boards, KarachiPort Trust (KPT), the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), and PakistanInternational Airlines (PIA) among other civic agencies to present a reporton how they can contribute for ‘bringing Karachi to its glory.’
