QUETTA – Balochistan which was once the most volatile province in Pakistanand since last one decade insurgency was thriving in the province, now hasreturned back to the normal due efforts from the Pakistan Army.
As part of the ongoing political reconciliation in Balochistan, as many as200 suspected militants surrendered their arms to the government andsecurity forces on Thursday.
The militants, who reportedly belonged to various banned groups,surrendered before Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Qudus Bizenjo andCommander Southern Command Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa during a ceremony heldat FC Headquarters, Turbat.
Waving Pakistani flags, the persons came on stage to surrender arms whereBalochistan CM also distributed cash and laptops among them.
In December, more than 300 suspected militants, belonged to various bannedoutfits, laid down arms before then chief minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehriand Commander Southern Command Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa.
The Balochistan, which is home of low-level insurgency by ethnic Balochseparatists, reconciliation process was kicked off by former chief ministerDr Abdul Malik Baloch a few years ago. So far, 2100 Ferraris havesurrendered since the process was initiated.
On August 31, twelve Baloch Republican Army (BRA) terrorist surrendered tosecurity forces at Noshki in Balochistan along with weapons and ammunition.
On Aug 18, around 22 insurgents surrendered to security forces during aceremony held at Frontier Corps (FC) Madadgar Headquarters in Quetta.
In February, a key commander of the banned militant group, Kafeel Mengalalong with his 14 accomplices surrendered to the security forces.
