Peace in South Asia linked with resolution of Kashmir issue, Pak tells US

ISLAMABAD – The agreement to engage at high level was reached at meeting between US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The two sides agreed to resume full scale engagements between the two Governments. All aspects of bilateral relations, the regional situation, as well as the evolving international environment were also discussed in the meeting.

The Prime Minister underlined the importance of high-level engagements between the two countries and expressed satisfaction on the progress made during these interactions in recent months.

Pakistan delegation outlined the government’s policy of a peaceful neighbourhood and steps taken to promote cooperation and stability in Afghanistan and the region. It said that progress in promoting peace and stability in the region is linked to the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

Pakistan’s delegation included Minister of Foreign Affairs Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister of Interior Ahsan Iqbal, Minister of Defence Khurram Dastgir, Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa, Director General ISI Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar.
