WASHINGTON – Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi says Pakistan desiresrelations with United States on the basis of mutual respect and interests.
Addressing a press conference in Washington, the Foreign Minister said hewould meet with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on second of next monthto reset ties between the two countries.
He said this meeting will take place as per invitation of Mike Pompeo whichhe extended during his visit to Pakistan early this month.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said Pakistan has always supported the United Statesand would like to move forward in the backdrop of their past friendship.
The Foreign Minister said the relationship between the two countries hasrecently been fractured but Pakistan intends to continue its engagementwith the US and manage the relationship by concentrating on points ofconvergence.
To a question, Foreign Minister said it is extremely unfortunate that Indiahas rejected Pakistan’s offer for dialogue to resolve the lingering issuesbetween the two countries.
However, he said our desire for peace should not be misconstrued forweakness and we are ready to give a befitting response to any misadventure.
The Foreign Minister said India is bound to act upon UN resolutions onKashmir issue.
