Former President Asif Zardari lands into yet another trouble

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is all set to file areference against Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardarinext week in the case pertaining to his alleged malpractices and corruptionin the Pink Residency case.

Sources familiar with the matter told media news that the reference will befiled in the accountability court of Islamabad after the approval of theNAB at its executive board meeting.

The reference will follow the ongoing investigation against Aftab AhmedMemon – secretary of the Land Utilisation Department of Sindh Board ofRevenue and a close aide to Zardari – who is under the custody of the NABin a case pertaining to illegal allotment of 17 acres of land in the KDAScheme in favour of M/S Pink Residency and others.

Earlier on March 8, the accountability court of Islamabad remanded Memon inthe custody of the NAB for 13 days for investigation in his allegedinvolvement in the illegal allotment of land.

The illegal regularisation cost the national treasury a loss of more thanRs800 million in terms of land value.

NAB alleged that Mr Memon “in connivance and collaboration” with othermembers of the Sindh Government Lands Committee, committed offences thatfall under Section 9 of the NAB Ordinance, 1999, that is related tocorruption and corrupt practices.
