Pakistan installs advanced modern Radar System across major Airports in the country

ISLAMABAD – With the installation of a modern radar system at keyinternational airports, Pakistan’s aviation sector has achieved another keymilestone under the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Mode S is a Secondary Surveillance Radar that is capable of selectiveinterrogation of aircraft based on unique 24-bit addresses assigned to eachaircraft.

The recent development is a key feature of Air Navigation Plan 2025approved earlier by PM Imran Khan.

Under the Air Navigation Plan 2025, 2 Mode S radar systems are installed atIslamabad International Airport and 4 at Jinnah International Airport,Karachi. This is in response to increasing air traffic in major citiesaround in Pakistan.

Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is expecting a 25 to 30% increase in revenueof the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) after the completion of AirNavigation Plan 2025. PIA has increased the number of flights to keydestinations around the globe including Europe, Canada, and Gulf countries.

Under the Air Navigation Plan, control towers of airports across thecountry will be equipped with modern equipment and technology.

Moreover, the development of new airports at key destinations, constructionof new runways at existing airports, and reconciling infrastructure withinternational standards are other important features of the plan. Mode Sradar systems will also installed at more airports in the future.

Civil Aviation Authority holds a key role in promoting tourism in thecountry. In this regard, the foundation stone of a new state of the art airportat Gwadarlinkwaslaid earlier this year.

Flights to some of the major destinations in the UK and Europe had beenresumed since PM Khan has assumed the office. Earlier this year, BritishAirways also resumed flight operations in Pakistan after a decade asBritish Airways’ Boeing 787 Dreamliner landed at Islamabad InternationalAirport.
