ISLAMABAD – The federal government has decided to review duties and taxesimposed on the import of mobile sets – for rapid digitalization in thecountry – and to offer facilities on the local manufacturing of cellularphones.
The decision was taken in a meeting held on Friday at the finance ministry.The meeting was chaired by Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance DrAbdul Hafeez Shaikh, the de facto finance minister.
According to sources, the Digital Pakistan Vision chief Tania Aidrus,ruling PTI leader Jahangir Tareen and representatives of telecom companiesattended the meeting.
The session deliberated on several recommendations including ensuring theavailability of 4G smart phones at affordable prices and promoting themobile phone manufacturing industry.
