Further unease spreads across India with Pakistan-Bangladesh Diplomatic Shift

Pakistan and Bangladesh have agreed in principle to grant visa-free entry to holders of diplomatic and official passports, in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral relations. A joint committee has also been formed to enhance cooperation between the two countries across various sectors.

According to details, Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with his Bangladeshi counterpart, Lt Gen (R) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, during his visit to Dhaka. Upon arrival at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Naqvi was warmly welcomed and presented with a guard of honour. During the meeting, the two ministers discussed matters of mutual interest and explored avenues to deepen Pakistan-Bangladesh ties.

Both sides agreed to enhance collaboration in internal security and police training. A joint committee was established to facilitate this cooperation, with Pakistan’s Interior Secretary Khurram Agha appointed as its head. A high-level Bangladeshi delegation is also expected to visit Islamabad soon to tour Pakistan’s Safe City Project and National Police Academy.

The two ministers also discussed increased cooperation in combating drug trafficking and human smuggling, as well as exploring joint initiatives in counterterrorism. They agreed to exchange police training programs and boost institutional links between police academies of both countries. Lt Gen (R) Jahangir Alam expressed gratitude to Mohsin Naqvi for offering police training support.

Present at the meeting were Bangladesh’s Minister of State for Home Affairs Khuda Bakhsh, Interior Secretary Nasim Al Ghani, Additional Secretary of the Security Division Shamim Khan, and senior officials from both countries. Representing Pakistan were Chargé d’Affaires Muhammad Wasif and Political Counsellor Kamran Dongal of the Pakistan High Commission.

Lt Gen (R) Jahangir Alam warmly welcomed Minister Naqvi, calling him “a brother” and stating that his visit would play a significant role in further strengthening Pakistan-Bangladesh bilateral relations.
