ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has asked allmedia houses to exhibit sobriety while covering general election 2018.
In an advisory issued today, PEMRA said all the licensees are obliged tofollow a code of conduct for political parties, contesting candidates,election and polling agents, and code of conduct of media for generalelection issued by Election Commission of Pakistan.It said that it isobligatory on media to inform and educate the public about relevantelectoral matters and motivate them to cast their votes.
PEMRA said all broadcasters should ensure balanced and impartial coverageof the election without any discrimination to any party or candidate.
Emphasizing on tolerance, the advisory said it is the duty of all mediahouses to promote tolerance among the public and avoid all form ofexpressions that may incite violence on the basis of politicalaffiliations, and religious beliefs.
It further informed that election campaign for general elections onelectronic media shall come to an end with effect from midnight tonight.
