Top US State Department official arriving on an important visit to Pakistan

*WASHINGTON: The head of South Asia affairs at the Department of States,Alice Wells, is due in Islamabad this week for talks related to economicand geopolitical issues.*

“In Islamabad, she will meet senior Pakistani government officials todiscuss bilateral issues of mutual interest including trade, investment andregional stability,” said a statement issued by the State Department’sspokesperson’s office.

Besides Islamabad, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Wells will alsotravel to New Delhi and Thimphu, Bhutan, from April 21 to 30.

In New Delhi, she will call on senior Indian government officials todiscuss US-India cooperation in promoting a free and open Indo-Pacificregion and continue to “advance initiatives agreed upon at the 2+2Ministerial Dialogue last fall”, the statement added.
