ISLAMABAD: A former police officer was martyred on Friday when unidentifiedterrorists opened fire on him in the Gora Gora area of Wana, Lower SouthWaziristan. The deceased has been identified as Hayatullah, who hadrecently retired from service.
District Police Officer Muhammad Tahir Shah Wazir confirmed that terroristsriding a motorcycle targeted Hayatullah while he was present in the busyGora Gora locality. The assailants managed to flee the scene after theattack.
The body was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Wana for postmortem.Local police immediately cordoned off the area and launched a searchoperation to trace the culprits.
DPO Tahir Shah stated that an investigation has been initiated and effortsare underway to arrest those responsible. He described the incident as atargeted killing.
The attack has triggered fear in the area, which has witnessed a surge interror-related incidents over the past months.
