ISLAMABAD – Two Indian High Commission employees leave Pakistan throughWagah Border.
Two Indian High Commission employees, who were briefly detained for beinginvolved in a hit-and-run accident in Islamabad last week, returned toIndia on Monday morning through the Wagah-Attari border, an official said.
Dwimu Brahma and Selvadas Paul were briefly detained and booked by policeafter their speeding vehicle crashed into a pedestrian in the capital onJune 15, triggering a diplomatic spat between New Delhi and Islamabad.
On Monday, the two employees who worked as drivers at the high commissionwere escorted to the Wagah border by Indian officials after they werecalled back by New Delhi, according to diplomatic sources.
“The two Indian officials have returned to India today morning throughWagah-Attari,” Indian High Commission spokesperson Akhilesh Singh said in astatement.
Last Tuesday, the Foreign Office (FO) had rejected the Indian Ministry ofExternal Affairs’ “irresponsible” statement regarding the detention of thetwo officials, calling it a “reprehensible attempt to distort facts anddeny culpability”.
The statement had come in response to the Indian foreign ministry’sreported claim that the two staff members had been “subjected tointerrogation, torture and physical assault, resulting in grievousinjuries”.
