KABUL – A key Taliban local group leader Mullah Din Mohammad and hiscomrades were killed in an airstrike in western Farah province ofAfghanistan.
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said Mullah Din Mohammad was killed in anairstrike conducted in Posht Rod district of Farah province.
The source further added that a total of four militants including MullahDin Mohammad and his three comrades were killed in the airstrikes.
Farah is among the relatively volatile provinces in West of Afghanistanwhere the anti-government armed militant groups are active in some of itsremote districts.
Hundreds of Taliban insurgents launched a coordinated attack on Farah citythe provincial capital of Farah in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The Afghan national defense and security forces responded to the attack bylaunching air and ground operations that lasted until early hours ofWednesday morning.
The Afghan officials said Wednesday that the city has been cleared of theTaliban militants although they did not rule out the presence of theTaliban militants in some parts of the city as well its outskirts.
The local residents in Farah said late on Wednesday night that freshclashes resumed after some Taliban insurgents launched coordinated attackson Farah prison and other government compounds.
