Rs 7 crore Ecstasy tablets smuggling bid to Pakistan foiled: Report

*ISLAMABAD: The International Mail Office (IMO) on Thursday foiled the bidto smuggle ecstasy tablets coming from Netherlands into Pakistan.*

Thousands of ecstasy tablets were being smuggled into Pakistan fromNetherlands, the IMO officials said.

The IMO said the 9 kilogram tablets were worth more than Rs70 million. Theofficials said they were to be sold to students of schools and colleges.

Ecstasy is an illegal drug that contains the active ingredient MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine).

The IMO officials said one ecstasy tablet was sold for Rs3,500 to 4,000.

An IMO officer said the parcel dispatched from Netherlands was opened afterit was suspected of containing suspicious content.

The official said the parcel was sent to a resident of Islamabad, KashifKhan.

On February 11, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and Airport Security Force(ASF), in a joint operation had foiled a drug smuggling bid and arrested apassenger at Bacha Khan International Airport, Peshawar.

The security teams had collared a passenger from Doha-bound flight andseized 1300 gram drugs. The man, identified as Muhamamd Mannan, wasdetained shortly after drugs were found from his possession.
