KARACHI – Pakistan is expected to witness its largest ever discovery ofoil and gas reserves in the comings weeks, reported GNN.
As per details garnered, pressure kick was found by The Oil and GasDevelopment Company (OGDC), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), ENI andExxonMobil have during drilling of the first exploratory well Kekra-1 inoffshore Indus in G-Block.
The drilling was started in January-2018 by Italian oil-giant ENI incollaborations with OGDC and PPL. Initially, USD 70 million were earmarkedfor this project.
Based on surveys, the OGDCL chief thinks the discovery could be even biggerthan that of Sui. “If a success, this would be a game changer for thecountry as well as the entire region,” he added.
The oil and gas imports cost Pakistan around one-fourth of the total importbills per year. The country has emerged as one of the largest gas(liquefied natural gas) importers in the last couple of years at the worldlevel.
