LAHORE – Lahore High Court (LHC) division bench will hear a bail petitionfiled by Opposition Leader inNational Assembly Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday.The bench comprising Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khanand Justice Mirza Viqas Rauf will hear the matter.Shehbaz Sharif through his petition had questioned theNational Accountability Bureau (NAB) proceeding and caseagainst him. Shehbaz contended that he took all steps inaccordance with the law and did not commit any irregularity.He submitted that the case was politically motivatedwhereas the bureau did not have any solid evidence againsthim. He pleaded with the court to grant benefit of bailwhile giving medical reasons.It is pertinent to mention here that Shehbaz Sharifwas arrested by the bureau on October 5, 2018, in connectionwith Ashiana Iqbal Housing scam.On Dec 22, NAB had filed a supplementary referenceagainst PML-N President and Chairman Public Accounts CommitteeShehbaz Sharif and 12 others in the Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housingcase. The supplementary reference consists of more thanthousand pages and spread over three volumes.The NAB had accused Shehbaz Sharif of misusing his authoritywhich resulted in failure of the project, depriving 61,000applicants of the housing units. The NAB alleged that ShehbazSharif, in connivance with former DG LDA Ahad Cheema, awardedthe contract to a proxy.
